A dress for everyone
A dress for everyone
By Lupe Castro
If I had to choose just one dress in the world that would suit every body's shape, be either small, large, big boobs or none it would have to be Studio Ecocentrics denim dress. As Katrin Kummer, designer of Ecocentrics who I met at Berlin's Green Room showroom a few weeks ago, says 'the style is forever'. With a background in costume design, she started her label in 2010 based on her vast collection of vintage dress styles. Apart from utilizing original trimmings, such as buttons and buckles, the designer also utilizes organic cotton and Italian wool, and manufactures the whole collection in Germany.
Why is the dress so perfect? Well the V neck is not immensely open and it's cut fairly deep, but not wide. Additionally, it also has a rather wide set collar so it balances anyone whose face is not long or sharp. It has piping tucks down the front which is always great if you’re a little larger, as it breaks up the fabric and creates elongation, yet is also rather good if you're slim because the piping does create a little bulk. The buttons are a little small for someone that is large I do admit, but they are covered in the same denim fabric so they don't shout it out too much, and they do create elongation. As for the belt, although I might be tempted to go for something a wee bit larger if I had a waist, if you don't it's perfect because this does create a little bit of a definition. The skirt’s bias cut is marvellous for everybody and not too wide, so if you're big in that area it just skims the hips and if you don't have any, it will give you some without looking baggy, which is ideal. Now, the length I guess is a matter of taste, along with what sort of shape your legs are, but I believe that there is something sexy about a well turned calf!
I asked Karin ‘what is your best seller?’
“Definitely the denim dress. I just think it's the perfect dress for large boobs or nothing boobs etc. it works for diverse female shapes and the timelessness of makes it wearable for women of all age.”
